12. APPOINTMENT ON CONTRACT TERMS AND PLACEMENTOF CONTRACT STAFF ON ESTABLISHMENT(1) All academic staff employed on local contracts shall be placed ontwo or three-year contracts upon joining <strong>the</strong> Polytechnic. Exceptin cases where <strong>the</strong>re are d<strong>is</strong>ciplinary <strong>is</strong>sues or whereperformance <strong>is</strong> not sat<strong>is</strong>fac<strong>to</strong>ry, staff not placed on <strong>the</strong>establ<strong>is</strong>hment shall be given fur<strong>the</strong>r contracts.Such offer ofcontract renewal shall be <strong>made</strong> known <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> staff at least sixmonths before <strong>the</strong> expiry of <strong>the</strong> contract.(2) Placement of local contract academic staff on <strong>the</strong> establ<strong>is</strong>hmentwill be decided on a case-<strong>to</strong>-case bas<strong>is</strong> at <strong>the</strong> sole d<strong>is</strong>cretion of<strong>the</strong> Polytechnic based on <strong>the</strong> establ<strong>is</strong>hment criteria.ThePolytechnic will communicate <strong>the</strong> criteria <strong>to</strong> all local contractstaff.13. PERFORMANCE REVIEW PROCESSThe management of under-performers shall be admin<strong>is</strong>tered inaccordance with <strong>the</strong> terms and rules of <strong>the</strong> Performance ReviewProcess as outlined in Schedule I <strong>to</strong> th<strong>is</strong> Agreement.IIITERMS AND BENEFITS ON TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT14. RETIREMENTAn employee who <strong>is</strong> on permanent establ<strong>is</strong>hment shall be required <strong>to</strong>retire from service on attaining <strong>the</strong> age of 62 years or such manda<strong>to</strong>ryretirement age that <strong>is</strong> in force.15. SEVERANCE BENEFITS(1) Where applicable, <strong>the</strong> Special Gratuity Scheme (SGS) and <strong>the</strong>Special Resignation Scheme (SRS) will follow <strong>the</strong> prevailingterms and conditions as laid down by <strong>the</strong> Public Service Div<strong>is</strong>ion.[See Schedules II and III].CA 75 of 2011 Page 7 of 61Ngee Ann Polytechnic Academic Staff Agreement, 2011ASCA( NC 290711)
