I was reallyraised by many group homes <strong>and</strong> residential treatment centers. I havebeen homeless <strong>and</strong> I am still currently poor. While in prison, I have beencut by other prisoners for refusing to perform sexual acts for them, <strong>and</strong> Ihave been beaten <strong>and</strong> sexually assaulted (sodomized with the nightstick)by correctional staff. I see first-h<strong>and</strong> the very issues that the system needsto change.No one in the prison system really cares about us trans people, gays,or gender-non-conforming people; they say they do, but when it reallycomes down to it, the facts will always show that the majority of theprison believes this nasty saying that “only the strong shall survive <strong>and</strong>only the weak perish”—which is such a cruel saying <strong>and</strong>, when you think185
