MY STORYPaula Rae WitherspoonI am a <strong>Trans</strong>sexual Woman incarcerated in the Texas Department of CriminalJustice (TDCJ), <strong>and</strong> this is just part of my story. I was on probationfrom Williamson County, in Dallas on transfer from Williamson CountyAdult Probation because my home, my means of support, <strong>and</strong> my familywere all in Dallas. Probation in Texas is designed to ensure that people aresent back to prison by way of the excessive, unrealistic parole stipulationsthat the courts require probationers to adhere to while on probation. I hadover thirty-six such stipulations, several requiring me to pay large monthlyfees, expensive counseling, polygraph tests, drug testing, <strong>and</strong> any otherservices that the counselor, probation officers, <strong>and</strong> court deem necessary.Now, when Texas lets you out of prison, they only give you $50 <strong>and</strong> a busticket, then let you out. I was lucky they allowed me to do my probation209
