Picturing the PICSet up: Prepare Beforehand and Bring: Draw the concentric circles onbig paper without the lists of PIC element terms (but with the sentencefragments). Create sticky notes that have those terms listed, one term persticky note.How it works:1. The Concentric circles are a model used to assist in defining the PIC byfilling in the blanks of a fragmented defining sentence.2. Read through the fragments of the sentence aloud: (“The PIC is a set ofinterests…empowered by these forces…”).3. Participants should come up to the circles, one at a time, pick an elementof the PIC sticky note, place it where it belongs in the circle, andexplain to the group why that is so. Start with the inner circle first andwork your way out, placing 2–3 sticky notes in each circle.4. After each sticky note is placed and explained, comment on the choiceof item, find out what questions there are, and see if anyone else has somethingbrief to add.5. After the outer-most circle is filled in, each participant should eitherwrite a new element of the PIC on a blank sticky note and place it, and/ormove a sticky note from one concentric circle to another, explaining howit fits in both (or more) circles.6. Distribute the filled in CR LA Concentric Circle Handout.Political points:Some points you might want to think about:• Both the brainstorm and the circles show the same thing in differentways. The brainstorm might be a better way to see how much is partof the PIC, or to search for new connections between elements of thePIC.
