However, beyond thisfundamental perspective, the onlooker is invited to view the figure before themfrom their own standpoint. Questions concerning the imagined circumstances ofthe enslavement, and the understood relationship between onlooker andoppressed figure, are for personal interpretation.I am also proposing that the narratives detailed in chapter 6 be viewed asa fabric that depicts institutional life, and the lives of those who live in thatenvironment. From this perspective, the strong threads of the fabric, that is, thosethreads that most determinatively and commonly describe and facilitateunderstanding of the institution and its people, will be discerned through carefulnarrative reflection.
