Creating a data sourceChapter 6: FILESTREAM with SSIS and SSRSThe next step is to create a data source pointing to the database of the product catalogapplication. Note that, in most real world reporting service projects, you will createshared data sources and shared datasets so that the object definitions can be reused.However, for this example we will specify an embedded connection.In the Report Data window, right-click the Data Sources node and select Add DataSource. When the Data Source Properties dialog box opens, either enter the connectionstring, or click Edit to build a connection string (Figure 6-27). Specify the SQL Serverinstance that hosts the product catalog database. When we created the data source forour SSIS lab, we were very careful to use Windows authentication in order to be ableto access the data using the streaming APIs. Since SSRS does not support accessingthe FILESTREAM data using Win32 or Managed APIs, we are free to choose betweenWindows authentication and SQL Server authentication.Figure 6-27:Creating the data source.Click OK on the Data Source Properties dialog box to save the newly created data sourceand return to the Report Designer.263
