Chapter 12: Planning, Configuration and Best PracticesIt is important to consider the cluster size of your volume during the planning phase ofthe FILESTREAM implementation because, unless trusted third-party tools are used, it isnot possible to change the cluster size without formatting the volume (and thus erasingall data).Disabling the indexing serviceIndexing usually slows down common file operations such as opening and closing.Because FILESTREAM data files should be accessed only through SQL Server, it isrecommended that you disable indexing on the NTFS volumes where FILESTREAMdata is stored.Disabling indexing on an NTFS volume is quite easy. You can do this by right-clicking onthe NTFS volume and selecting Properties.
