Chapter 11: FileTableTo adequately understand FileTable, we first introduced several new concepts, including the fixed schema, non-transactional access, FileTable namespace and FileTablesecurity. Next, we configured the server for FileTable and created a database withFileTable support. We created a FileTable using T-SQL and examined the support for FileTables in SSMS.We used Windows Explorer to access the FileTable contents and create new files andfolders. In the Programming FileTable section, we learned how to add data to a FileTableusing T-SQL and the .NET file I/O APIs. We concluded that using the .NET file I/O APIsis preferable. Then we looked at new SQL Server objects to support FileTable, including new functions, views and stored procedures. These objects help us to manage the FileTables in ourenvironment by providing insight into the structure and contents of the FileTable data. Finally, we examined two advanced features that are supported for FileTable data:full-text search and semantic search. The schema of FileTables lends itself well to beingused with both full-text and semantic search.436
