He was then taken before Pontius Pi-who gave the order for his death by crucifix-late,ion. He died in the act <strong>of</strong> commending his soulto God. <strong>The</strong> body was given by Pilate to Joseph*<strong>of</strong> Arimathea, <strong>and</strong>, aided by Nicodemus, he wrappedit in spices <strong>and</strong> laid it in a tomb prepared for himselfin a garden which he owned outside the walls.Jesus rose on the third day after his death in thebody, which, though changed as to its mode <strong>of</strong>119
