Sarah dies, <strong>and</strong> Abraham, five yearslater, marries Keturah, by whom he had six sons. In 1821B. C. Abraham dies at the age <strong>of</strong> 175 years, <strong>and</strong> is buriedin the cave <strong>of</strong> Machpelah. Ishmael dies in 1773 B. C., atthe age <strong>of</strong> 137 years.In 1856 B. C. Isaac marries Rebekah, <strong>and</strong> in 1836 B. C.twin sons were born, whom they called Jacob <strong>and</strong> Esau(Gen. xxv.). Isaac dies at Hebron in 1716 B. C., aged1 80 years, <strong>and</strong> is buried in the tomb <strong>of</strong> Abraham by histwo sons (Gen. xxxv.).In 1753 B. C. Jacob marries Leah <strong>and</strong> Rachel, <strong>and</strong> hassix sons <strong>and</strong> one daughter by Leah Reuben, Simeon, Levi,:Judah, Isaachar, Zebulun <strong>and</strong> Dinah ;two sons by Rachel'sh<strong>and</strong>maid Bilhah : Dan <strong>and</strong> Naphtali two; by Zilpah,Leah's h<strong>and</strong>maid: Gad <strong>and</strong> Asher; two by Rachel: Joseph<strong>and</strong> Benjamin. In 1689 B. C. Jacob dies in Egypt, aged147, <strong>and</strong> was buried in Canaan (Gen. 1. 6-13).Acre A city <strong>of</strong> the tribe <strong>of</strong> Asher (Judg.i.31). It was the "Key to Palestine."<strong>and</strong> has been the scene <strong>of</strong> many famous sieges <strong>and</strong> battles.It was taken by the Crusaders in noo, <strong>and</strong> retaken bythe Saracens in 1187. In 1191 it was recovered by theCrusaders (under Gnido <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem, Philip <strong>of</strong> I'ranee,<strong>and</strong> Richard the Lion-hearted <strong>of</strong> Engl<strong>and</strong>), <strong>and</strong> held bythem tillthey were finally driven out <strong>of</strong> Palestine in 1291.It was the last fortified place wrested from the Christiansby the Turks. 162
