EBP <strong>in</strong> <strong>Foster</strong> <strong>Parent</strong> Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>Support</strong>based practices <strong>in</strong> foster parent support. This section focuses on studies that exam<strong>in</strong>e theeffectiveness of <strong>in</strong>terventions <strong>and</strong> models of support for foster parents, as well as prelim<strong>in</strong>aryresearch evidence regard<strong>in</strong>g the benefits of various types of foster parent supports (whentraditional evaluative research is not available). The follow<strong>in</strong>g services <strong>and</strong> supports are covered<strong>in</strong> this section of the report: benefits (health <strong>in</strong>surance, service provision, <strong>and</strong> stipends), fosterparent collaboration with agency staff <strong>and</strong> biological families, level of care, respite, support fromagency workers <strong>and</strong> community members, support <strong>in</strong>ventories, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegrated models of support<strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.BenefitsHealth Insurance & Managed CareChildren <strong>and</strong> adolescents with special healthcare needs constitute a highly vulnerablesubpopulation of the nation’s youth. By def<strong>in</strong>ition, they experience ongo<strong>in</strong>g health issues thatrequire cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>teraction with the healthcare system. Their underly<strong>in</strong>g chronic conditionsput them at added risk for health complications that may underm<strong>in</strong>e their normal function<strong>in</strong>g atschool, <strong>in</strong> the family, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> the community (Newacheck, 2007). Families of youth with specialhealth care needs may also susta<strong>in</strong> adverse emotional <strong>and</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial consequences as a result oftheir child’s health difficulties <strong>and</strong> elevated care needs.
