EBP <strong>in</strong> <strong>Foster</strong> <strong>Parent</strong> Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>Support</strong>PCIT is rated as an effective practice. Participants of PCIT programs report less stress,<strong>and</strong> develop <strong>and</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> effective parent<strong>in</strong>g skills <strong>and</strong> improved child behaviors (Bagner &Eyberg, 2007; McNeil, Herschell, Gurwitch, & Clems-Mowrer, 2005; Nixon, Sweeney,Erickson, & Touyz, 2003; Shuhman, Foote, Eyberg, Boggs, & Alg<strong>in</strong>a, 1998; Timmer et al.,2006; Timmer, Urquiza, & Zebell, 2006; Thomas & Zimmer-Gembeck, 2007). PCIT treatsnoncompliance, aggression, rule break<strong>in</strong>g, disruptive behavior, dysfunctional attachment withparent(s), <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternaliz<strong>in</strong>g symptoms. PCIT may be helpful for TFC foster parents who arework<strong>in</strong>g with emotionally <strong>and</strong> behaviorally challenged children.<strong>Parent</strong><strong>in</strong>g Wisely (PAW)<strong>Parent</strong><strong>in</strong>g Wisely is a self-adm<strong>in</strong>istered, highly <strong>in</strong>teractive computer-based program thatteaches parents <strong>and</strong> children (aged 9-18) skills to improve their relationships <strong>and</strong> decreaseconflict through support <strong>and</strong> behavior management (Kacir & Gordon, 1997). PAW utilizes an<strong>in</strong>teractive CD-ROM to present parents with video scenarios depict<strong>in</strong>g common challenges withadolescents. <strong>Parent</strong>s are to choose one of three solutions to these challenges. They are then ableto view the scenarios enacted <strong>and</strong> receive feedback about each choice. The program tutorsparents by po<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g out typical errors parents make <strong>and</strong> highlight<strong>in</strong>g new skills that will helpthem resolve problems. <strong>Parent</strong>s <strong>and</strong> children can use the program together as a family<strong>in</strong>tervention.
