Those 12 types are:1. artifact scatter – lithic and/or ceramic scatter with no other features (NMCRIS 1993:4-25). Thismorphological type undoubtedly includes a variety of functional categories. Some sites may beresidential or task group camps with features that are either buried or have been eroded. Othersprobably reflect a more limited range of activities associated directly or indirectly with theresource procurement. An expanded classification of artifact scatters, based on the type anddiversity of artifacts, is therefore needed to refine the site typology.3-12
