2. Park use & recreation
Lake Ellyn Park includes a number of amenities and
features:
• Lake Ellyn, a 10 acre water body with approximately
3,340 feet of shoreline, used for fishing, nonmotorized
boating, and ice skating
• Lake Ellyn boathouse, a 75-year-old structure that
seats 150 people, which can be rented for events
and gatherings. The boathouse includes the park’s
only restrooms (public, open from April through
October), and serves as a warming shelter for ice
skaters
• A large wooden deck extends from the east side of
the boathouse, and provides fishing access to the
lake
• Over 10 acres of wooded open park space, and
picnic space with tables and grills
• Over a mile of walking paths (some paved, some
soft-surface)
• A playground with climbing structures, slides, and
swings
• Two clay tennis courts, which currently require
membership for a nominal fee to use
• Park accouterments including benches, lighting,
drinking fountains, and picnic tables
• A Veteran’s Memorial
The existing park facilities are generally in good repair,
but many are dated and at the end of their design life,
including the playground, and some of the trails/walking
paths and benches. The clay tennis courts are maintained
by the Glen Ellyn Park District Tennis Association. The
boathouse will be discussed in greater detail below.
