a. Overall planning & design approach
The long-term vision for Lake Ellyn Park relies on the many
existing features, attributes, and history of the park, as well
as the current attitudes and perspectives of the community
it serves. The vision is illustrated in an overall site plan that
generally locates proposed “plan elements” that already
exist, are proposed to be modified, or proposed new park
features. The plan elements are described in further detail
in this section of the plan.

1. “Polishing the gem”
It is clear from the long history of the park and the opinions
and comments offered by many people throughout
the design process that Lake Ellyn Park is a substantial
community asset. Lake Ellyn is inseparably connected to
the fabric of the Village, and its features and elements are
much loved by most everyone in the community. It is truly
a gem for the people of Glen Ellyn.
While it is a gem, many of its elements, features, and
landscapes are impacted and depreciated by age, use,
weathering, and other factors. In order to even maintain
existing features, a robust program of protection,
renovation, management, and stewardship must be
proactively planned for, budgeted, and implemented.
While a range of options for various plan elements and
features were considered during the planning process,
the end result was to largely keep existing, frequently
