Outdoor performance area
Lake Ellyn Park has and continues to be a dramatic setting
for outdoor performances. In recent history, a temporary
stage has been used for musical artists and others to
perform from. The lawn areas both south and north
of the boathouse are ideal locations for various small
outdoor performances, with certain restrictions on sound
levels, time of performances, etc. One of the master plan
recommendations is to create a small, more permanent
performance platform in one or both of these locations to
negate the need for the temporary structure, and serve as
a lake overlook/seating area when not in use most of the
time. The Master Plan indicates a performance area north
of the boathouse that utilizes the natural topography to
allow for lawn seating for performances that could be
set up on or near the edge of the lake. The performance
platform is proposed as either a permanent structure
(surface with appropriate electrical connections and
removable or temporary cover) or a “floating stage” that
could be moored adjacent to the lake shore and provide a
suitable performance surface and an even more dramatic
and unique setting.
