From a designer’s po<strong>in</strong>t of view [52], a game beg<strong>in</strong>s with establish<strong>in</strong>g aesthetic goals or play<br />

values; these will <strong>in</strong>form the creation of game mechanics and the gameplay gestalts generated<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>teraction with players.<br />

From a player’s po<strong>in</strong>t of view, preferences towards certa<strong>in</strong> subsets of gameplay gestalts can give<br />

rise to play styles <strong>in</strong> the same way that <strong>in</strong>teract<strong>in</strong>g with the rules of the game (mechanics) moulds<br />

the processes (dynamics) enacted <strong>in</strong> dur<strong>in</strong>g a play session.<br />
