STATEMENT OF THE CANDIDATE<br />

The work presented here has not been submitted for a higher degree to any other university or<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitution. Sources of <strong>in</strong>formation utilized are <strong>in</strong>dicated <strong>in</strong> the literature list of the relevant sections<br />

of this thesis. This is a thesis by publication and it <strong>in</strong>cludes thirteen articles. Eight of them feature<br />

co-authors. The candidate is particularly thankful to Dr. Anders Drachen: the collaboration,<br />

especially <strong>in</strong> the last year of the research project, has led both to considerable academic<br />

achievements and personal development.<br />

Here is <strong>in</strong>cluded a clarification of the extent of these contributions and the contact details for the<br />

co-authors.<br />

Dr. Anders Drachen (was Tychsen): Is Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Center for <strong>Computer</strong><br />

<strong>Games</strong> Research, IT University of Copenhagen. He is first author of five papers and second author<br />

of two. His ma<strong>in</strong> contributions focus on game metrics, quantitative approach and statistic analysis.<br />

Lennart Nacke: Is a PhD Candidate <strong>in</strong> Digital Game Development at Blek<strong>in</strong>ge Institute of<br />

Technology, Sweden. He organized the panel “Game Metrics and Biometrics: the future of <strong>Play</strong>er<br />

Experience Research” presented at Futureplay 2009. He contributes on player psychophysiology<br />

(EEG, EMG, GSR, BCI).<br />

Dr. Georgios Yannakakis: Is Associate Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, a member<br />

of the Center for <strong>Computer</strong> <strong>Games</strong> Research and a member of the special <strong>in</strong>terest group <strong>in</strong> Game<br />

AI at ITU. He co-authors the article “<strong>Play</strong>er Modell<strong>in</strong>g Us<strong>in</strong>g Self-Organization <strong>in</strong> Tomb Raider:<br />

Underworld” and was <strong>in</strong>strumental <strong>in</strong> devis<strong>in</strong>g the self-organiz<strong>in</strong>g maps used to f<strong>in</strong>d clusters of<br />

player behaviours.<br />
