On January 28th, our Confucius
Institute accepted an invitation from one of
the Center for International Understanding’s
Confucius Classrooms, East Garner Middle
School, and celebrated the Chinese New
Year with over 400 students. Anna Lamm,
Confucius Institute Director, gave an
opening speech on Chinese zodiac signs
and introduced the CI. Confucius Institute
professors Dr. Tang and Yang Xiaowen
performed Taichi and invited students
from the audience to join them on stage
for a presentation. Yang Yang gave a
presentation on Chinese traditional music
and involved students with a guessing
activity to see which instrument played
each piece of music. These students were
able to distinguish the differences between
Guzhen, Pipa, and Erhu. Learning about
classical Chinese music can help increase
Sino-US friendships, and just like the
music describes flowing water high in the
mountains amidst the beautiful Jasmine
fragrance can last forever.

学 生 共 贺 羊 年 新 春 。 这 是 北 卡 州 大 孔
院 新 春 系 列 活 动 的 第 三 场 。 活 动 以 孔
院 美 方 院 长 林 安 娜 女 士 的 发 言 开 场 ,
生 肖 的 话 题 一 下 子 热 闹 了 全 场 。 孔 院
教 师 唐 晓 忠 老 师 和 杨 晓 雯 老 师 表 演 了
二 十 四 式 杨 氏 太 极 拳 , 而 且 还 现 场 收
起 了 “ 徒 弟 ”, 学 生 们 踊 跃 报 名 。 两 位
老 师 挑 了 四 位 “ 徒 弟 ”, 现 场 授 课 , 学
生 们 也 现 学 现 卖 。 孔 院 教 师 杨 阳 带 去
了 民 乐 赏 析 节 目 , 一 曲 曲 中 国 经 典 民
乐 , 让 在 场 的 学 生 觉 得 新 奇 不 已 , 渴
望 了 解 乐 曲 背 后 的 中 国 乐 器 , 其 后 的
传 统 乐 器 竞 猜 活 动 满 足 了 他 们 的 这 一
愿 望 , 高 难 度 的 考 题 , 如 辨 别 “ 高 山
流 水 ” 的 古 筝 版 和 琵 琶 版 , 以 及 “ 茉 莉
花 ” 的 笛 子 、 二 胡 和 扬 琴 三 个 版 本 都 没
有 难 倒 他 们 。 正 如 这 两 首 乐 曲 所 展 示
的 , 中 美 人 民 间 的 友 谊 如 高 山 流 水 源
远 流 长 , 如 茉 莉 花 醇 美 馨 香 。
