Chinese American Friendship Association (CAFA)
Chinese New Year Gala
On February 14th, the Chinese-American
Friendship Association of North Carolina (CAFA),
in partnership with the Confucius Institute, hosted
the 2015 Spring Festival Gala, celebrating the year
of Sheep in UNC Memorial Hall. The great event
welcomed the arrival of over 1,500 people, among
them there were North Carolina Congressman
David Price, Ping Ruan, the Counselor and Consul
General at Chinese Embassy at USA, Elaine
Marshall, the Secretary of North Carolina, Bailian
Li, the Vice-provost of NC State University. These
distinguished guests gave their sincere wishes
for the coming year and mentioned honorably
the achievements made by the Confucius
Institute. During the 3 hours, the Gala captured
the attention of the spectators with high-quality
performances: a family performance about love,
songs and music composed by students on
campus, classical western music performed with
traditional Chinese musical instruments, and
Chinese folk dance performed by young kids, etc.
Among them, “Opera is for Everyone” performed
by Raleigh Smith, a former Confucius Institute
student, together with a Chinese artist won the
thunderous applause of audiences.
This great event has been a showcase of
Chinese culture and a great opportunity to boost
the reputation of the Confucius Institute in the
community.

节 联 欢 晚 会 在 北 卡 大 学 教 堂 山 分 校 的 纪 念 大 礼 堂 隆
重 举 办 。 当 晚 北 卡 州 议 员 David Price 先 生 、 中 国 驻
美 大 使 馆 参 赞 兼 总 领 事 阮 平 先 生 、 北 卡 州 务 卿 Elaine
Marshall 女 士 、 莫 瑞 斯 威 尔 市 议 会 议 员 Steve Rao 先
生 、 北 卡 州 大 副 教 务 长 李 百 炼 博 士 、 北 卡 华 联 主 席 刘
冉 先 生 莅 临 了 晚 会 现 场 并 致 辞 , 他 们 盛 赞 了 北 卡 华 联
及 孔 子 学 院 在 北 卡 三 角 区 为 促 进 中 美 两 国 的 交 流 与 合
作 所 作 出 的 重 大 贡 献 , 并 向 现 场 及 北 卡 三 角 区 所 有 华
人 表 达 了 诚 挚 的 新 春 祝 福 。
一 年 一 度 的 春 节 晚 会 在 当 地 极 受 追 捧 , 演 出
当 天 更 是 一 票 难 求 。 北 卡 当 地 近 一 千 五 百 名 群 众 前 往
观 看 了 这 台 晚 会 。 与 往 年 的 春 晚 相 比 , 今 年 的 春 晚 紧
扣 亲 情 、 爱 情 的 主 题 , 更 贴 近 北 美 华 人 的 真 实 生 活 。
既 有 几 个 家 庭 的 联 袂 表 演 , 用 音 乐 和 视 频 向 观 众 展 示
在 美 华 人 的 真 实 生 活 , 也 有 来 自 三 角 区 大 学 歌 唱 比 赛
获 奖 选 手 的 歌 舞 表 演 , 展 现 在 美 留 学 生 的 感 情 生 活 。
北 卡 沁 香 新 民 乐 团 用 中 国 传 统 乐 器 演 奏 西 方 经 典 乐 曲
为 观 众 们 带 来 了 耳 目 一 新 的 视 听 享 受 , 来 自 各 团 体 、
各 学 校 的 孩 子 们 更 是 为 观 众 们 送 上 一 出 出 或 古 雅 朴 拙
或 热 闹 喜 庆 的 歌 舞 表 演 。 本 场 演 出 中 北 卡 州 大 孔 子 学
院 学 生 Raleigh Smith 参 与 合 唱 的 “ 夫 妻 双 双 把 家 还 ”
更 是 赢 得 了 满 堂 喝 彩 。
整 场 晚 会 精 彩 纷 呈 、 高 潮 迭 起 , 使 观 众 们 享
受 了 一 场 视 听 艺 术 的 饕 餮 盛 宴 。
