MEDICAL CENTER - ZA JE ČAR General Hospital and Health Center he wealthy tradition of health care in T Zaječar has been described in the chapter dedicated to it. Central city institution in this field at present is certainly the Medical Centre of Za je ča r. It was established in 1990 as a regional medical centre which united the complete healthcare services of all eight municipalities of contemporary Zaječar county. Nowadays, the primary healthcare services of the Medical Centre of Za je ča r are provided for the city of Za je ča r (for 65,000 citizens), and secondary specialistic, consultative and hospital healthcare services for the complete territory of Za je čar municipality (for 120,000 citizens). Beneficiary oriented, The Cen ter pays close attention to long-term planning and timely making of strategic decisions, taking into consideration all the reform processes that are in progress. The strategic plan for the period from 2011 to 2015 is based upon two elements – mission and vision. Mission: General Hospital in Za je ča r provides services of high quality policlinic and stationary healthcare, applying modern processes of diagnostics and treatment, team work, continuous trainings for medical staff and maximum utilization of available resources. The aim: satisfied beneficiaries and healthy population. Vi sion: This hospital aspires towards becoming the leading healthcare institution on the territory of southeast Serbia in the field of secondary prevention, diagnostics and medical treatment.
Apart form the promotion of the health itself, Health Centre of Zaječar provides preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services in the field of general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, occupational medicine, emergency medicine, dentistry (general, pediatric and preventive, orthodontics, prosthetics and oral surgery), polyvalent patronage and health care. Primary health care is organized within eight services: Pre-school and School Childcare Service with Pediatric and Youth Health Counseling Office, Women’s Healthcare Service, General Medicine with Centre for Disease Prevention, Occupational Medicine, Emergency Medical Centre with medical transportation, Home Care Service, Polyvalent Patronage Service and Dental Service. Secondary health care in the General Hospital includes admission and care of emergency patients, examinations by specialists, diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation in policlinics, daily hospitals and during hospitalization from the following fields of healthcare and specialties: Internal medicine, pneumo-phtysiology, neurology, infectious and skin diseases, hemodialysis, general and children’s surgery, orthopedics, urology, otorinolaryngology and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics (with neonatology), psychiatrics, anesthesiology with reanimatology; biochemical, hematological, radiological, nuclear medical, pathoanatomic and cytological diagnostics; pharmaceutical services (hospital pharmacy), physical medicine and rehabilitation (sports medicine). Within the project “Emergency Reconstruction of 20 Hospitals in Serbia”, aided by the National Investment Plan, three million euros have been invested in the reconstruction of hospital facilities and procurement of new equipment. Surgery department has been reconstructed, Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry have been separated, new Internal Department and kitchen have been built, laboratory and specialistic infirmaries have been reconstructed, and a road for urgent admission of patients has been constructed. Regarding the primary health care, the access to Health Centre and Women’s Healthcare Service have been reconstructed. Under General Medicine Service, an
