that realm. Confusing, but Lucan did not bother to query further. While there,
he had been taken through time to the origin of the seal, and he had seen the
millennia of man on earth. He had witnessed the fall and the invasion of the
angels and the flood. He had watched Jacob wrestle and receive the seal and
seen how through the years, many had sought the seal. And he had seen the
one behind the many schemes, Lucifer, and his fallen demons. With this
power, he would be able to see and hear them even while they were in human
forms. He would be able to banish them to Tartarus. But with the power came
great responsibility. He felt he could handle all of them except one. All the
others required that he restrained his head, but one required that he stopped
listening to his heart. He said nothing of this to the other guardians or Gabriel,
the holder of the keystone. He stayed on with them until they all left for their
homes. It was only when he got to the crowded part of town that he began to
understand how his life would be radically different. He would never have
believed anything of what he now saw.
All around, there were demons in human form. He walked past some having
a snack and chatting with other normal humans. He could hear the demons
constantly communicating with one another in what Gabriel had told him was
spirit communication. A whole new world had opened up to his senses. The
supernatural had been around him all along but he just couldn't see it. Now it
lay plain before him. He hurried along to the privacy of his house.
Imani couldn't believe how happy she was to hear his voice when Lucan's
call came in that evening. She had really missed him and she didn't even
bother to try to hide it. She was glad when it was clear that he had equally
missed her. “My mother has been dying to meet you,” Imani said. “I'm planning
to take the whole of tomorrow off. We are going to see her.”
“You didn't add, 'And that's an order!'” Lucan chuckled.
She laughed too. “Love you.”
“Love you too, babe,” he purred back and ended the call.
