Without any further word, Lucan left the gathering.<br />

Across town, Gabriel stood inside the living room of a devastated Tara.<br />

“It took my baby, it took my baby,” Tara cried out, her tears flowing freely.<br />

“But what did it want?” Gabriel asked. “Did it say anything about her being<br />

the child from the experiment of long ago?”<br />

“Have they finally found me after all these years?” Tara lamented. “Why<br />

didn't they leave her and take me, Gabriel, why her? You have to help me get<br />

her.” She held on to his hand as she pleaded with him.<br />

Gabriel put his hand on hers and looked at her tenderly. He felt every ounce<br />

of her pain. He said softly, “I need to know if it mentioned anything about her<br />

being the child”.<br />

“No it didn't,” she responded, shaking her head to buttress the point. “But it<br />

said something about her boyfriend and a seal and some other seals. Seems it<br />

wanted him to bring the seals to it or it would…” She broke down again.<br />

Gabriel allowed her cry for a few moments. Then he probed a bit further.<br />

“Did it by chance mention a Guardian of the Seal?”<br />

Tara's head shot up. “How did you know? That's exactly what it said.” The<br />

sudden look of anxiety that crept onto Gabriel's face caught her attention.<br />

“What is the name of this boyfriend of hers?” he asked.<br />

“Lucan,” she answered, “Lucan Belgore.”<br />

“Oh No!” Gabriel exclaimed quietly.<br />

For the first time since she had known him, Tara saw him agitated. “What has<br />

he done?” she asked. “You know him? What is this whole guardian business?<br />

How does it involve Imani? Talk to me Gabriel. And don't tell me I am asking too<br />

many questions, because I am not taking that.”<br />

Gabriel was already getting up. “I would love to stay and answer your<br />

questions, but it's more important we get your daughter back. And if we are
