Guardians of the Seal
When Tara's doorbell rang, she wondered who it could be at that time of
evening. Imani was not due to appear with her boyfriend till the next morning.
She put down the book she was reading and adjusted her reading glasses.
She then slipped into the fuzzy slippers Imani had got her and padded to the
door lazily. She didn't notice it was opened until she stretched her hand to
open it. Panic flooded through her and she turned to run into the house. As she
swung around, strong arms caught her. She was about to scream for help
herself to love.
“And how is the little girl?” he ventured.
“Imani?”
“Do you have any other?”
Tara laughed. “Are we going to have a conversation entirely made up of
questions? As you say, questions always lead to more questions.”
Gabriel recalled that was the first thing he said to her and they both laughed.
When they stopped, he went back to his question. “How is she?”
“She is not so little anymore, for starters. She's a big woman now.”
Tara was avoiding the question even though it was clear to him she knew what
