Guardians of the Seal
earthquakes or thunderstorms. Not even one flash of lightning. It was
just a regular sunny day in a house on a hill. He smiled at the irony of it.
The last few months had been challenging, and Lucifer's seekers had
come close twice. But he had been able to successfully hide Tara from
them. He knew his time here was limited. He went into the room where
Tara sat on the bed. She had gradually recovered from her incarceration
at The Place and as the time had gone by, she had practically taken charge
of taking care of the house, even in the advanced stages of her pregnancy.
But more importantly, Gabriel had helped her heal a deeper wound.
Gradually, she had dropped the toxic ideas she had been filled with about
men as he showed her what a real man should be. And in doing so, she
had become a more complete woman. She was a strong one, this woman.
manifest.”
“Imani,” Tara said, and rolled the name over on her tongue. She liked
the sound of it. The child that bore the name looked as exotic as the name
sounded. Her hair was jet black and thick, her complexion olivecoloured,
a tone darker than Tara's, even as a baby. She had big, full eyes
that seemed to question everything they were fixed on. Tara rocked her.
Imani. Her own. In those moments, Imani was just her child. All that
Gabriel was saying about the world needing her for something didn't
register. She was holding her child, and she would die first before any
harm came to her.
It was as if Gabriel heard her thoughts. “I know you love her more than
the world and would do all in your power to keep her safe,” he said. “I wish
