but a little odd, with a child-like take
on traditional motifs. Orthopedic mattresses
and down quilts make them as comfortable
as they are cool. Flexible tarifs can make it

in a rickety old wood-floored building; all
rooms have orthopedic mattresses and some
have views.
16th century, when Francisco Pizarro was an
occupant. It’s as luxurious and beautiful as
you’d expect, with a fine interior courtyard,
and ample rooms that were recently renovated.
It also features a Peruvian restaurant,
bar and business center.
Yanantin Guest House GUESTHOUSE $$

This small guesthouse has an assortment
of well-heeled rooms large enough for desks
and coffee tables. Organic toiletries are offered
and the comfy beds feature cotton

bed and bakery features fresh bread daily at
5am. From the looks of it, few of the guests
have theirs hot (though breakfast is included).
There’s also good water pressure and a
hardcore hippie groove: if you want to shop
for San Pedro experiences or make organic
pizza, it’s your spot.

hillside farmhouse high above the Plaza
San Blas affords some great views. There’s
erratic hot water, private bathrooms and a
large farm kitchen available for cooking your
own meals. Taxis can’t climb the final uphill
stretch, so be prepared for a stiff walk.

guesthouse run by Dominican nuns
on the grounds of the busy Colegio Martín de
Porres, this place is clean, safe and friendly,
and overlooks frequent volleyball matches on
the courtyard. Simple, spotless rooms with
heat are arranged off a long, sunny hallway.
Continental breakfast is included.

courtyard, well-kept colonial terraces and

phones and typewriters. A very good
value, but watch for rooms on the musty
side.
Los Aticos HOTEL $$

this sleepy spot is off the radar but
well worth snagging. Rooms have comfy
beds with down duvets and parquet floors.
There’s also self-service laundry and a full
guest kitchen. The three mini-apartments
sleep up to four and are good value for selfcatering
groups or families.
Picol Hostal HOTEL $$
