So does it take a craziness to
produce something beyond the
ordinary? He corrects it to say
there’s got to be a quirky-ness.
“So I guess I may have a bit of
that,” he says contemplatively.
To do something ordinary can
easily be overlooked, it can be
taken for granted, he points
out. Jay also possesses a striking
sartorial style which is testament
to the creative spirit in his work.
As for inspiration for such big
ideas? “I don’t seek it — it comes.
I don’t go for walks through city
streets looking for something that
would strike me as inspiring. Instead
it comes in moments when my mind
is clear. And that is usually before
I go to sleep. The ideas just keep
coming,” he says with a laugh.
Although there are some places
that Jay enjoys spending time
in. One is the Parisian-style café
Buvette in the neighbourhood
of the West Village, a short walk
from his home in the East Village.
Buvette’s atmosphere is of vintage
France, with a small plates menu
of classic French specialties of
open-faced tartines with pates and
terrines.
How else does he express his
creative spirit and what of the
future? “I like gardening. It’s what
I do when I go to Bangkok. I enjoy
going to Chatuchak (Bangkok’s
weekend market) and picking out
plants,” he smiles.
It’s a quiet enjoyment before he
goes back to the vibrancy of luxury
store windows. He confirms that
every year, ‘it’s exciting.’

นิวยอร์กมานับครั้งไม่ถ้วน ทั้งยังได้ชื่อว่า
เป็นดิสเพลย์ที่สวยงามและโด่งดังที่สุดใน
โลก ดึงดูดสายตาผู้ชมนับล้านจากทุกแห่ง
หนให้แวะเวียนกันมาเยี่ยมชมเสมอ
โดยเฉพาะในช่วงคริสมาสต์ของแต่ละปี และ
เจย์คือผู้อยู่เบื้องหลังความสำเร็จนั้น
เจย์เล่าให้ฟ้าไทยฟังว่า “เราไม่ได้จัด
ดิสเพลย์เพื่อโชว์สินค้าหรือขายของ แต่
เป็นนำเสนอภาพลักษณ์ของห้างมากกว่า”
เมื่อถามถึงแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์
ผลงาน เจย์ตอบว่าเขาโชคดีมากที่ไม่ต้อง
ออกไปค้นหาจากภายนอก เพราะส่วน
ใหญ่ความคิดดีๆ จะแวบเข้ามาในหัวเวลา
ที่เขารู้สึกสงบนิ่ง สบายใจ ซึ่งมักเกิดขึ้นใน
เวลาได้ทำกิจกรรมโปรด ซึ่งนอกจากการ
ไปเดินเลือกต้นไม้ที่สวนจตุจักรเวลากลับ
เมืองไทยแล้ว แรงบันดาลใจของเจย์จะพรั่ง
พรูท่วมท้นเมื่อได้ปล่อยอารมณ์สบายๆ ที่
Buvette คาเฟ่สไตล์ปารีเซียงใกล้ที่พักใน
ย่านเวสต์วิลเลจที่เขาคุ้นเคย
