Those Pakistanis who have been chosen by Power100 as recipients of awards deserve congratulations and recognition as the standard bearers or leaders for others to follow suit. Personal Leadership essentially is the capacity to lead our own lives in accordance with principles that are consistent with a right understanding of the world and of ourselves, so as eventually to live the good life. To do that, the award winners have had to set a personal mission, which is the project that defines their identity: who they want to be. The strength of that mission will depend on its content, credibility and urgency. To fulfil their mission, they must have continually monitored and corrected their course. The will is the engine of personal change: it takes sides among rational and spontaneous motivation, orchestrating changes in their behaviour. The will is, therefore, the centre of our freedom and, precisely for that reason, the centre of our personal history: in the end, we become the person we have chosen to be. I applaud those who have been instrumental in arranging this event and setting high standards in their selection criteria.
