FINAL POWER 100 BOOK 2.59 TUE_Layout 1 14/02/2017 13:56 Page 92 IRFAN MALIK Entrepreneur JAVAD HAIDER RANA Accountant JAVED KHAN Victim Support irfan is a successful entrepreneur and a valued member of the British pakistani business community. he is an executive director and cofounder of Uk investment property Services a company which quickly evolved from its humble beginnings into an international business with client base across the globe bringing millions of pounds worth of investment into the Uk property market. irfan belongs to an academically high achieving family and in line with the high expectations he graduated from the University of leicester with llB (hons) before completing legal practice course from Bpp law School in london. irfan is a keen supporter of a number of charities. the plight of pakistanis is particularly very close to his heart. together with his family and friends he helped raise £35,000 for the 2010 flood victims in pakistan and continues to support various initiatives that are helping affected families to get their lives back on track. Javad came to england from pakistan in 1984. he studied accounting at humberside college in hull. in 1986 he started his first job as a trainee accountant. after qualifying as a chartered certified accountant he worked with several small to medium sized firms in london. in 1998 he decided to set up his own practice, J r accounts. the firm became registered auditors as well in 2001. from humble beginnings his firm flourished and today he has offices in london and manchester and has clients with turnovers of up to £10 million. as a chartered certified accountant Javad works for a diverse range of clients throughout england. with a friendly and pro-active approach he provides invaluable support to many owner-managed businesses and high net-worth clients. he believes in “going the extra mile” for his clients. Javad has a wide portfolio of clients but has special expertise relating to charities, dentists, and Solicitor’s practices. he believes in being a true business advisor and not just an accountant. he has assisted with the launch of many ventures that have gone on to become substantial businesses, amongst them Genix healthcare. a few of the charities that he has worked with are islamic aid, nazia hassan foundation, Uganda community relief association (Ucra) and north east london cancer help centre. Javed khan has twenty 27 years of experience across the public and voluntary sectors. with a successful track record in high profile leadership roles, he is now the first British pakistani to lead a major national charity, employing 1500 people and 7000 trained volunteers. it is the world’s oldest and largest such organisation, supporting over 1.5m victims and witnesses each year, and has 600 sites across england and wales. he regularly interacts with very senior politicians, police, Judiciary, crown prosecution Service, the media and various local and national stakeholders. reporting to a major Board of trustees, he is responsible for a budget of £50m per year. having begun working life as a maths teacher, Javed’s previous roles have included executive director to the london Serious Youth Violence Board, director of education in the london borough of harrow and assistant director of education in Birmingham. Before that he was an assistant principal in further education. Javed’s parents, having emigrated from the kashmir region of pakistan, could neither read nor write. Growing up in the backstreets of inner city Birmingham, his comprehensive education led to a maths degree and then on to teacher training. he began his teaching career in the west midlands, and then made rapid progress through the education sector. he is a non-executive member of Skills for Justice, Sport for life international, the executive Board of Victim Support europe and has been an adviser to the Goldman Sachs Global leader’s programme. he is also a founder member of the kashmiri and pakistani professionals association (kappa). he is a regular contributor to national and international conferences, and often appears in national media. 92
FINAL POWER 100 BOOK 2.59 TUE_Layout 1 14/02/2017 13:56 Page 93 NA’EEM RAZA Marketing & Fundraising na’eem raza has been described as “a fusion of experience, talent, sincerity, leadership, energy, creativity and charisma” producing one of the Uk’s leading presenters, marketing and fundraising consultants. an ex dJ before practising islam in 1998, na’eem went on to become the lead presenter and producer on Glasgow’s radio ramadan until his recent tV, stage and consultancy career took over. na’eem has been elected to the national executive of the islamic Society of Britain since 2000- 2010 and became president of the Young muslims Uk, 2005-2007. Since 2000, na’eem has also led a group of 300 people to the annual hajj pilgrimage to makkah, Saudi arabia. in 2003 na’eem established Scotland’s first marketing consultancy advising, training and supporting organisations and businesses on engaging with faith based communities. invited as an annual lecturer for several years, on “islam and muslims” to Ba students, Glasgow University, na’eem went onto deliver a tour of Scotland’s churches exploring dialogue between christians and muslims in 2007. in 2008, na’eem was head hunted and became the Uk campaigns manager and subsequently international project manager on the 25th anniversary for one the world’s largest muslim charities which climaxed with a gala dinner in london attended by hrh, the prince of wales. During 2012, Na’eem hosted Pakistan’s Cricket World Cup winning ex-captain Imran Khan and singer Junaid Jamshed. as one of the lead presenters on islam channel’s ramadan fundraising appeals during ramadan 2010, 2011 and 2012, na’eem helped to raise over £10 million each year, respectively. na’eem was also the anchor host at the Global peace and Unity 2010 at london’s excel attended by 100,000 people and went onto present the annual hajj coverage live on islam channel in 2011 from makkah and medina, Saudi arabia, viewed by millions and beamed across 132 countries worldwide. a seasoned event, gala and conference compere, presenter and fundraiser with public speaking experience around europe, in 2011 alone, na’eem hosted or managed in excess of 100 events, raising millions for various local, national and international causes. a 93
