A Centenary Tribute to Vera Lynn: Although
famous as “The Forces’ Sweetheart”, following a
poll in the early days of the Second World War
when servicemen voted her their favourite singer,
Vera Lynn was regarded with similar affection on the
home front. Her songs of love, longing and hope for
the future struck a chord with everyone who heard
them, winning her a unique place in the hearts of the
general public. This love and respect for Dame Vera
has continued ever since, and as she celebrated her
one-hundredth birthday in March this year we are delighted to pay our own
tribute in the form of a new CD of all her most popular songs. Code: C165
Sing Something Simple: In the longest continuous
running music show ever, the Cliff Adams Singers
serenaded us for 42 years. A group of ten men and
four women, to the accompaniment of Jack Emblow
and his Accordion Quartet plus Adams at the piano,
they harmonised favourite songs, old and new.
Medleys were their speciality and the public couldn’t
get enough. Now is your chance to hear them all
over again. Code: C160
Come Dancing: Many future married couples
met on the dance floor and here are 27 different
foot tappers to remind you of the past, when a visit
to the local palais or village hall was the highlight
of the week. Everything from a 17th-century
minuet, through several Latin American dances to
20th-century rock & roll are included, calling at
various hop, skip and jump stations in between.
What was your favourite? Code: C159
