Groundbreaker welcomes

Groundbreaker welcomes HBF report on fire suppression systems The House Builders Federation Information Note of 24 th July 2015 crystallises a number of points that have come out of discussions involving HBF, Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and Welsh Water in light of the legislation making domestic fire sprinklers mandatory in new homes in Wales. Preliminary work undertaken by the HBF has shown that in the event of mandated provision of fire sprinklers in every new home in England there will be far reaching design and cost repercussions. The ‘note’ was produced to inform HBF members of HBF recommendations for fire sprinkler systems. Of the six water supply and connections types available which include connection to a pressure tank or vessel, ground floor storage tank and gravity fed elevated storage tanks, the HBF recommends the final two options which are:- • Direct mains fed system relying on mains water pressure. • Automatic “boosted” systems drawing water direct from a mains water supply. The note goes on to say ‘In many respects this preference is mirrored by most Water Companies in England and supported by the Water Supply Sector’s retained advisor.’ Said Groundbreaker Systems Managing Director, Steve Leigh ‘We are delighted that the HBF is recommending something that we have been championing for some time and are of course delighted to be able to provide an innovative mains fed fire suppression system to house builders. A mains fed system is undoubtedly the most cost effective method of providing a safe and easily accessible fire suppression system for new domestic and retrospective installations’. Firebreaker® is mains fed control system for domestic fire sprinkler systems, providing safe, accessible, insulated controls yet within a tiny footprint compared with traditional water storage tanks.
