made fun of or physically threatened at school...
I wonder if it was difficult to go to school
some days….
• Who did you talk to about what was going on?
Empathize:
• if student made a report… did things get
better or worse?
that Christ’s power may rest on me.
DRINKING/DRUGS - when a student communicates
to you that they have been using alcohol or drugs...
Empathize:
Thanks for letting me know about your struggle. It
• Find out the student’s reasoning for using. Ask
about frequency and specific substances used.
Encourage:
no control over their life choices, but that you want
to encourage them to make good decisions.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is
to make choices that leave the doors of your future
open. Each negative choice has the potential of
closing a door that may not open again.
Educate yourself on the four major drug classifications:
slow down the Central Nervous System (alcohol,
sedatives, tranquilizers, barbiturates).
the Central Nervous System (cocaine, crack, meth
and amphetamines).
mood (codeine, heroin).
is not our own.
