BULLYING - when a student tells you they are being
made fun of or physically threatened at school...
Empathize:
Sounds like the school year was pretty tough….
I wonder if it was difficult to go to school
some days….
• Who did you talk to about what was going on?
Empathize:
• if student made a report… did things get
better or worse?
Sometimes there are difficult people in our lives
that speak lies to us
• What do you know to be true about yourself?
(Goal is to speak truth to bullies’ lies)
• You are fearfully and wonderfully made
(Psalm 139:14)
• God has a big plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11)
• You are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27)
• God loved you so much He died for you
(Romans 5:8)
• God will never leave you or forsake you
(Hebrews 13:5)
up their wounds.
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient
for you, for My power is made perfect in
weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the
more gladly about my weaknesses, so
that Christ’s power may rest on me.
DRINKING/DRUGS - when a student communicates
to you that they have been using alcohol or drugs...
Empathize:
Thanks for letting me know about your struggle. It
must have taken a lot of courage to tell me about it.
• Find out the student’s reasoning for using. Ask
about frequency and specific substances used.
• Make it clear that you understand that you have
Encourage:
no control over their life choices, but that you want
to encourage them to make good decisions.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is
to make choices that leave the doors of your future
open. Each negative choice has the potential of
closing a door that may not open again.
Educate yourself on the four major drug classifications:
• Depressants - produce a calming effect and
slow down the Central Nervous System (alcohol,
sedatives, tranquilizers, barbiturates).
• Stimulants - excite bodily functions and speed of
the Central Nervous System (cocaine, crack, meth
and amphetamines).
• Hallucinogens - alter and distort reality (LSD, marijuana).
• Narcotics - reduce pain and elevate a person’s
mood (codeine, heroin).
1 Corinthians 6:19
The body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Our body
is not our own.
Ephesians 5:18
Be filled with the Spirit, not of anything that
defiles it.
Jeremiah 29:11
God has a plan for your life that is good.
God’s strength and presence are available to
those in great need.
