struck him as being just what was wanted; but he<br />

knew nothing <strong>of</strong> its origin. It was carried to several<br />

others, who were thought <strong>of</strong>, as its author, but no<br />

author or owner <strong>of</strong> it could be found. “Perhaps an<br />

angel from heaven had sent it!” So they talked, at<br />

any rate.<br />

However, the hymn was copied with the pen,<br />

and the sheets multiplied to supply all who wished<br />

for one. The day came, and the hymn was sung,<br />

with the greatest enthusiasm, to the favorite old<br />

tune, “Delight”!<br />

But among those who distributed the copies,<br />

there was a worthy Baptist minister, by the name <strong>of</strong><br />

Kendrick, who had taken a warm interest in Mr.<br />

<strong>Miller</strong>. His suspicions had pointed him to the<br />

author <strong>of</strong> the piece; and when Mr. <strong>Miller</strong> came,<br />

with others, to get a copy, his appearance and<br />

manner confirmed Elder Kendrick’s suspicions.<br />

Further inquiry brought forth a confession <strong>of</strong><br />

authorship. To use the phrase <strong>of</strong> the old folks, “it<br />

was a great feather in his cap.” He had touched the<br />

right chord in the right way. The pious and<br />
