“Brother Himes:- Permit me to drop you a few<br />

thoughts on the historical facts <strong>of</strong> the last year,<br />

compared with the prophecies in the word <strong>of</strong> God.<br />

The little horn <strong>of</strong> the 7th and 8th chapters <strong>of</strong><br />

Daniel, the man <strong>of</strong> sin <strong>of</strong> the 2nd chapter <strong>of</strong> 2nd<br />

Thessalonians, the latter part <strong>of</strong> the beast and the<br />

image-beast <strong>of</strong> the 13th chapter <strong>of</strong> Revelation, are<br />

evidently prophecies concerning the Popes <strong>of</strong><br />

Rome. The reasons which are conclusive to me are,<br />

1st. These characters are represented as having<br />

great power, blood-thirsty, cruel, and blasphemous,<br />

making war against the saints, and prospering until<br />

the Ancient <strong>of</strong> Days shall come, or until the end <strong>of</strong><br />

the indignation, or the appearing <strong>of</strong> the Son <strong>of</strong><br />

Man. The time <strong>of</strong> his rule, when given, is the same;<br />

the consumption and destruction at his end is the<br />

same; the means <strong>of</strong> that destruction are represented<br />

to be, not by the power <strong>of</strong> men, but <strong>of</strong> God. Daniel<br />

represents that his dominion shall be taken away,<br />

and his body reserved to the burning flame. He also<br />

represents that he shall be broken without hand,<br />
