the character, and such the qualifications <strong>of</strong><br />

Emanor, the Prince <strong>of</strong> whom I have been speaking.<br />

“In addition to what I have related, he was a<br />

great Captain, a mighty Conqueror, and a Prince <strong>of</strong><br />

peace. In the wars which his Father waged with the<br />

most potent enemies <strong>of</strong> his government, he came<br />

<strong>of</strong>f conqueror, and more than conqueror, over some<br />

<strong>of</strong> the most stubborn and rebellious subjects that<br />

any government was ever troubled with. He carried<br />

the olive branch <strong>of</strong> peace into the enemies’ camp;<br />

and, although he was treated with indignity, scorn,<br />

and hatred, was reviled, mocked, spit upon, was<br />

smitten, bruised, wounded, and torn, slandered,<br />

defamed, and cast out, yet he ceased not to cry,<br />

Peace, and to proclaim, Pardon to the chief <strong>of</strong> the<br />

rebels, on condition <strong>of</strong> their throwing down the<br />

weapons <strong>of</strong> their rebellion, and returning to the<br />

allegiance <strong>of</strong> their lawful and righteous Sovereign.<br />
