know him, but on account <strong>of</strong> his opinions.”<br />

At the close <strong>of</strong> the examination his blindfold<br />

was removed, and he was introduced to Mr. <strong>Miller</strong>,<br />

to the no small amusement <strong>of</strong> the company.<br />

They arrived in New York on the evening <strong>of</strong><br />

the 6th <strong>of</strong> February, 1844, and found a conference<br />

assembled in Franklin Hall. Mr. <strong>Miller</strong> gave two<br />

discourses there on the 7th; when, finding the place<br />

too small, they adjourned to the Broadway<br />

Tabernacle, where he lectured, in the afternoon and<br />

evening <strong>of</strong> the 8th and 9th <strong>of</strong> February, to crowded<br />

assemblies. It was estimated that not less than five<br />

thousand persons were present. The audiences were<br />

solemn and attentive.<br />

On the 10th <strong>of</strong> February they went to<br />

Philadelphia, and on the 11th Mr. M. commenced a<br />

course <strong>of</strong> lectures in the saloon <strong>of</strong> the Chinese<br />

Museum, -- closing on the 18th. That immense hall<br />
