This fanaticism was the result <strong>of</strong><br />

Starkweather’s teaching that “gifts” were to be<br />

restored to the church. Even he seemed at first<br />

amazed at the results.<br />

As a specimen <strong>of</strong> the hallucination, a young<br />

man by the name <strong>of</strong> M---- imagined that he had<br />

power to hold the cars from moving on the<br />

railroad, by the mere effort <strong>of</strong> his will. As they<br />

were about starting, he said: “Don’t you go.” The<br />

wheels <strong>of</strong> the locomotive made several revolutions<br />

before the heavy train started. “Now go,” said he;<br />

and it moved. “There!” said he, “did I not stop the<br />

train?”<br />

Returning home, “Father,” said he, “do you<br />
