in their doings or speeches. They expressed, what<br />

all Adventists believe, that the time <strong>of</strong> the entrance<br />

<strong>of</strong> departed saints into their inheritance is at the<br />

resurrection. But the question, whether the<br />

intermediate state <strong>of</strong> the dead is a conscious or an<br />

unconscious one, was not even mooted there. This<br />

shows the necessity <strong>of</strong> great cautiousness in stating<br />

objections against what is not perfectly understood.<br />

“6. Another objection is, that the proceedings<br />

‘look like doing something in the future;’ ‘seem<br />

like aiming at something which we shall not<br />

approve.’ Well, as those are not objections to what<br />

was there done, and are only fears <strong>of</strong> what may be<br />

done, arising out <strong>of</strong> the jealousy <strong>of</strong> the human<br />

heart, I shall not spend any time in replying to<br />

them; for all magnanimous minds are content with<br />

pointing to actual transgressions, and never allude<br />

to future fancied ones, unless they are very<br />

desirous <strong>of</strong> finding something to find fault with, in<br />

accordance with their pre-judgment.<br />
