On the 18th <strong>of</strong> November he wrote an article<br />

for the Herald on the necessity <strong>of</strong> exercising<br />

patience unto the coming <strong>of</strong> the Lord. He<br />

characterized that as the time <strong>of</strong> patience, when “ye<br />

have need <strong>of</strong> patience, that, after ye have done the<br />

will <strong>of</strong> God, ye might receive the promise; for yet a<br />

little while, and he that shall come will come, and<br />

will not tarry.” -- Hebrews 10:36, 37. Therefore he<br />

exhorted them, saying, “Be ye also patient:<br />

establish your hearts; for the coming <strong>of</strong> the Lord<br />

draweth nigh.” (James 5:8)<br />

There was at that time, certainly, great need <strong>of</strong><br />

the exercise <strong>of</strong> patience; for taunting expressions,<br />

like “You have not gone up yet!” or “When are you<br />

going up, now?” were no uncommon salutation,<br />

even from some who pr<strong>of</strong>essed to believe that God<br />

has “appointed a day in the which he will judge the<br />

world;” when the saints will “be caught up together<br />
