and there were some killed and wounded on both<br />

sides. You will undoubtedly hear many stories, but<br />

the truth you will hardly get, for there are as many<br />

different stories here as there are men. I expect we<br />

shall be posted at this place, that is, the 30th regt.;<br />

but wherever we may be, you will hear from me as<br />

<strong>of</strong>ten as you wish to. I have not heard from you<br />

since I came from home. Do write immediately,<br />

and direct your letter to “Lieut. Wm. <strong>Miller</strong>, <strong>of</strong><br />

30th Infantry, Northern Army.<br />

“P. S. Nov. 1st. 1813. I have joined my regt.,<br />

and find all our soldiers alive and well from<br />

Poultney. We lost none from our regt.; and only<br />

one wounded. It is said we lost 30 killed in said<br />

battle. We some expect an attack by the Indians<br />

soon.<br />
