Mood Disorders
(Joshua Togeretz)
Mood Disorders is a category of disorders that affect
our emotions. The illnesses that are commonly
referred to by the phrase Mood Disorders include:
depression, dysthymic disorder and bipolar disorder.
(Canadian Mental Health Association[CMHA], 2013).
In Canada, over 2.6 million (8.6% of the population) people meet the diagnostic criteria
for mood disorders (Statistics Canada, 2018).
Treatments of mood disorders are often effective and include: counselling,
medication, electro convulsive therapy, light therapy and self-management. Roughly
80% of people who properly access treatment no longer feel and symptoms (CMHA,
2013).
