4.5 THE VISION WINDOW TOOLS PALETTE
If you need to do more than just display an image, and you are looking for some user
interaction, one often overlooked tool for the job is the Window Tools Palette (Figure
4.32). This ßoating palette allows the user to select one of many tools to measure data,
draw objects, zoom, pan and easily deÞne regions of interest (ROIs), while providing
feedback such as image type and current relative mouse coordinates. You display and
hide the tool palette using the IMAQ WindToolsShow VI, which works in a similar
manner to IMAQ WindShow (Figure 4.33). Even before you have displayed your tool
palette, you can programmatically alter its functionality (Figure 4.34). As you see, the
palette is very customizable using IMAQ WindToolsSetup and IMAQ WindToolsMove,
allowing you to deÞne which tools to display, the position of the palette, whether to show
mouse coordinates, and how many tools are displayed per line (Figure 4.35).
4.5.1 AVAILABLE TOOLS
There are 13 tools available on the Vision Tools Palette (Figure 4.36):
Selection Tool (Tool 0): The selection tool allows the user to select a previously
deÞned ROI or shape on the image.
Point (Tool 1): The point tool allows the user to select one pixel, and can be
useful to nominate previously deÞned shapes, or return information particular
to that pixel (intensity or RGB values, for example).
