186 Image Acquisition Processing with LabVIEW Link-based hybrids take advantage of LabVIEW’s easy-to-use GUI and Mathematica’s advanced mathematical capabilities. 7.4.3 LABVIEW/MATHEMATICA HYBRID APPLICATIONS A simple example of this hybrid approach is shown in Figure 7.29. This VI was prepared as a demonstration of image processing using Mathematica Link for Lab- VIEW for NI Week 2002. FIGURE 7.29 A hybrid Mathematica-LabVIEW application. The image acquisition camera was an inexpensive Firewire Webcam, and the image processing was accomplished using Mathematica and its Image Processing add-ons. When compared with the cost of NI vision hardware and the IMAQ toolkit, this demonstrates a lower-cost option for less-critical image processing requirements.
