Link-based hybrids take advantage of LabVIEW’s easy-to-use GUI and Mathematica’s
advanced mathematical capabilities.
7.4.3 LABVIEW/MATHEMATICA HYBRID APPLICATIONS
A simple example of this hybrid approach is shown in Figure 7.29. This VI was
prepared as a demonstration of image processing using Mathematica Link for Lab-
VIEW for NI Week 2002.
Note that the only National Instruments component in this system is LabVIEW
itself. The image acquisition camera was an inexpensive Firewire Webcam, and the
image processing was accomplished using Mathematica and its Image Processing
add-ons. When compared with the cost of NI vision hardware and the IMAQ toolkit,
this demonstrates a lower-cost option for less-critical image processing requirements.
