If the user deÞnes a region of interest at run time, then it can be advantageous to pass it to this input, as it can dramatically speed up the search process. If you know that the text you are looking for will be rotated at a particular angle, then it is a good idea to pass that value into the rotation angle input, otherwise the search engine may not detect the text. By default, the OCR search engine will detect both dark text on a light background and light text on a dark background, but doing so requires two sequential searches. If you know that your text will be of one particular type, or you speciÞcally want to ignore text of one of the types, you can set the invert mode using this input. Setting an invert mode will also increase the speed of the OCR processing. between them is that IMAQ Complex OCR will output a report on each of the detected characters — the actual OCR search and recognition routines are identical. When performing the OCR, you can deÞne a few more parameters to make the search easier and faster. Both IMAQ Basic OCR and IMAQ Complex OCR have the inputs shown in Table 8.3. 8.1.4 PRACTICAL OCR Figure 8.1 shows a VI that has performed an OCR on an image of a ßoppy disk. As you can see, the user has deÞned a region of interest (ROI) around some text on the source image, and the OCR Text output on the front panel of the VI has detected and resolved the text to read LabVIEW. This example was achieved using the OCR VIs as described previously, using the code shown in Figure 8.2. Figure 8.3 shows an image with both alphabetic and numeric characters successfully detected. 8.1.5 DISTRIBUTING EXECUTABLES WITH EMBEDDED OCR COMPONENTS If you intend to distribute your code as a stand-alone executable with OCR software embedded, you must copy the \OCR folder and its contents from \LabVIEW\Vi.lib\Vision\addons to the folder where the executable program will be located on any target machines, and copy Imaqocr.dll, Kitres.dll,
