Côtes de Bourg,
Blaye - Côtes de Bordeaux
En bordure de l’estuaire de la Gironde, les citadelles de
Bourg et de Blaye prêtent leur nom à trois appellations*
viticoles limitrophes et une dénomination**.
Cette région de paysages vallonnés regorge de témoignages
d’un riche passé : grotte préhistorique de Pair-non-Pair,
habitats troglodytes, villa gallo-romaine de Plassac, chapelles
fortifiées...
Servi par l’influence bénéfique de l’estuaire et faisant face au
Médoc, le terroir d’ensemble des trois appellations présente
une structure assez homogène, avec des sols à large
dominance argilocalcaire et des nuances argilograveleuses
ou sablo graveleux. Le merlot, cépage roi de la région, s’y
épanouit remarquablement. Typés et délicats, les vins rouges
sont colorés et corsés, finement bouquetés, toujours souples,
et servent avec un égal bonheur la cause de la cuisine
régionale. Pour leur part, les vins blancs, dont la production
était autrefois majoritaire, affirment leur caractère bien trempé
(nez intense et puissant, persistance en bouche).
Along the banks of the estuary, the citadels of Bourg and Blaye
lend their names to three neighbouring Appellations* and one
Denomination**.
The hilly landscape of this area is full of traces of history: the
prehistoric cave of Pair-non-Pair, caves dwellers settlements, the
Gallo-Roman villa of Plassac…
With the beneficial aid of the estuary, the terrain of both
Appellations shares its limestone, clay and sandy gravel where
Merlot the primary grape in this area-ripens extremely well. Red
wines are deep in colour, full-bodied, with rich flavours.
As for the white wines, formerly the main yield, they have a strong
power and structure. Generally with an intense and powerful
aroma, their finesse and rich lingering flavours really stand out.
