L’ABBAYE DE LA SAUVE-MAJEURE
En Entre-deux-Mers, l’abbaye
de la Sauve-Majeure est un
incontournable de la route des vins
et retrace des siècles d’histoire.
La Silva Major ou « grande forêt »
qui occupait autrefois le territoire,
est un ancien couvent catholique
issu de l’art roman.
Fondée en 1079, par le duc
d’Aquitaine et le bénédictin Gérard de
Corbie, elle représentait un véritable
havre de paix pour les pèlerins qui
y trouvaient refuge. Abandonnée
à la fin du XVIII ème siècle, elle est
finalement classée au patrimoine
mondial de l’UNESCO depuis 1998
dans le cadre des chemins de
Saint-Jacques de Compostelle en
France.

The Silva Major or «big forest» that
once occupied the territory, is a
former convent of Romanesque art.
Founded in 1079 by the Duke of
Aquitaine and the Benedictine
Gerard de Corbie it was a haven of
peace for pilgrims who found refuge
there. Abandoned at the end of the
18 th century, it was finally listed
as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
since 1998 as part of the route to
Santiago de Compostela in France.
