Itinéraire Satellites de Saint-Émilion, Castillon Situées sur la bordure nord de l’appellation Saint- Émilion, les quatre appellations Lussac Saint-Émilion, Montagne Saint-Émilion, Puisseguin Saint-Émilion et Saint- Georges Saint-Émilion partagent avec leur prestigieux protecteur, une histoire très ancienne, ainsi que les mêmes types de sols à dominante argilocalcaire. Plateaux, collines et vallons forment un paysage très varié dans lequel les témoignages du passé s’inscrivent avec une rare densité : vestiges gallo-romains, comme cette villa découverte à Montagne, qui aurait appartenu au poète Ausone au IV e siècle, monuments religieux à l’émouvante simplicité, telle l’église romane de Saint-Georges, anciens pigeonniers, moulins, belles demeures du XVI e siècle. Le Merlot y est prédominant et apporte aux vins puissance, longueur et suavité. La région des Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux prolonge à l’est, les coteaux du Saint-Émilionnais et est bordée au nord par les Francs Côtes de Bordeaux. Moins médiatique, cette région accueillante offre un paysage reposant et verdoyant. Les vins font également la part belle au cépage Merlot et livrent des vins rouges assez corsés, généreux, au bouquet puissant. Une appellation à découvrir… Located at the north of the Saint-Emilion appellation area, Lussac Saint-Emilion, Montagne Saint-Emilion, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion and Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion share ancient history with their prestigious guardian, and the same clayey limestone soils. The landscape of plateaus, hills and valleys conceals Gallo-Roman ruins, religious monuments, old pigeon lofts, mills and 16 th -century mansions. Merlot is the principal grape variety here, giving power, length and smoothness to the wines. Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux continues the Saint-Emilion hills to the east, and shares its northern border with Francs Cotes de Bordeaux. This area is more discreet and welcomes visitors with relaxing green countryside. The wines are mainly Merlotbased and are quite full-bodied and generous with vigorous bouquets. North of St-Emilion city, Yannick Menguy produces wines with the Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion and Montagne Saint-Emilion appellations. Chateau Vieux Guillou, Saint- Georges Saint-Emilion is recognised as one of the best wines of the appellation.
