HUDSON TAYLOR The man who believed God by Marshall Broomhall

This book should be required reading for any and all future missionaries. Broomhall does the Christian world a great service by detailing Hudson Taylor's successes as well as his trials. The most remarkable feature of this book is the faith of Hudson Taylor. In the midst of incredible adversity this man abandoned himself to Jesus and the promises of Scripture. He rested solely on the provision of God, letting no man know his need. Throughout the book, Taylor's adversities and God's deliverances are a source of encouragement and inspiration that will lift the spirits of any true believer to "cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you." This book is an excellent read about a life well-lived and a spiritual journey of great depth.

THE MAN WHO BELIEVED GOD<br />

every act and every omission on the future welfare of<br />

<strong>God</strong>'s children, and on that of others, was inescapable.<br />

But we have only considered one of the two visions<br />

which were ever before his eyes. We have contemplated<br />

briefly his view of the need; there was also the vision of<br />

<strong>God</strong>, and of His unsearchable supplies. <strong>The</strong>re was not<br />

only the map with its story of hu<strong>man</strong> woe, there was the<br />

could endure, and it speaks eloquently for Hudson<br />

Taylor's mental powers and passionate devotion.<br />

And again, is there any other pursuit which can so<br />

impress a <strong>man</strong> with the value and significance of words.<br />

Bishop Westcott, one of the greatest of New Testament<br />

scholars, has said: "If I am to select one endowment<br />

which I have found precious for the <strong>who</strong>le work of life<br />

beyond all others, it would be the belief in words which<br />

I gained through the severest discipline of verbal criticism.<br />

Belief in words is the foundation of belief in<br />

thought, and of belief in <strong>man</strong>." He might have added,<br />

"and of belief in <strong>God</strong>".<br />

Hudson Taylor had proved <strong>God</strong> in China, and he had<br />

proved <strong>God</strong> in East London, for some of his acutest<br />

tests of faith in matters of finance came while he was<br />

there. Time and again deliverance came at the eleventh
