HUDSON TAYLOR The man who believed God by Marshall Broomhall

This book should be required reading for any and all future missionaries. Broomhall does the Christian world a great service by detailing Hudson Taylor's successes as well as his trials. The most remarkable feature of this book is the faith of Hudson Taylor. In the midst of incredible adversity this man abandoned himself to Jesus and the promises of Scripture. He rested solely on the provision of God, letting no man know his need. Throughout the book, Taylor's adversities and God's deliverances are a source of encouragement and inspiration that will lift the spirits of any true believer to "cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you." This book is an excellent read about a life well-lived and a spiritual journey of great depth.

hour, and sometimes later. Rent and taxes had been due
when funds were insufficient, but only once was payment
deferred, and then for less than forty--eight hours.
These experiences only served to emphasize God's
faithfulness, and the open Bible made him dwell deep
in God's truth. God was taking a larger and larger place
in his life and outlook. More and more he was conscious
that he lived, and moved, and had his being in God,
that if God were with him, and for him, it did not matter
who, or what, was against him.
While on the one hand he saw the great and solemn
responsibilities, on the other he saw "the gracious
Word".
"The Word had said: 'Seek first the Kingdom of God and
His righteousness, and all these things (food and raiment)
shall be added unto you'. If anyone did not believe that God
spoke the truth, it would be better for him not to go to
China to propagate the faith. If he did believe it, surely the
promise sufficed. Again, 'No good thing will He withhold
from them that walk uprightly'. If anyone did not mean to
walk uprightly he had better stay at home. If he did mean
to walk uprightly, he had all he needed in the shape of a
guarantee fund. God owns all the silver and the gold in the
world, and the cattle on a thousand hills. We need not be
vegetarians!''
He believed in God, and he implicitly believed in
God's Word. He was prepared to step out upon it, to
venture all upon its veracity, to risk life, and all that
life holds dear, in the faith that heaven and earth shall
pass away, but God's Word shall abide, that "the Word
of our God shall stand for ever". God to him was real,
His Word was real, and the needs ol the world were real.
He was living in the realm of reality. God was nigh,
