HUDSON TAYLOR The man who believed God by Marshall Broomhall

This book should be required reading for any and all future missionaries. Broomhall does the Christian world a great service by detailing Hudson Taylor's successes as well as his trials. The most remarkable feature of this book is the faith of Hudson Taylor. In the midst of incredible adversity this man abandoned himself to Jesus and the promises of Scripture. He rested solely on the provision of God, letting no man know his need. Throughout the book, Taylor's adversities and God's deliverances are a source of encouragement and inspiration that will lift the spirits of any true believer to "cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you." This book is an excellent read about a life well-lived and a spiritual journey of great depth.

UNTO THE LORD 227
:fidence among the friends of the Mission. The organization
of the work he had founded was practically complete.
In the Home countries there were Directors,
Secretaries, and Councils; and in China itself there was
a Deputy Director and a China Council also. It only remained
for him to pass on to the tried and.trusted hands
of Mr. D. E. Hoste the responsibilities attaching to the
post of General Director, first as acting on his behalf,
then, when recovery of health was clearly not God's Will,
the full commission as his successor, while he remained as
Consulting Director. In this way, the work that he had
founded passed, without a shock, to those whom God
was raising up to take his place.
Happily, under God, the foundations of the Mission
had been well and soundly laid, and he. was able to
write, in reply to a letter of loving sympathy signed by
some three hundred members of the Mission, who had
been driven from their stations by the Boxer persecutions,
the following reassuring words:
"When the res~ption of our work in the interior becomes
possible we may find circumstances changed, but the
principles we have proved, being founded on God's unchanging
Word, will be as applicable as ever."
How true those words were was not only proved
after the Boxer crisis, but is being proved to-day, after
the even more revolutionary upheaval of recent times.
The rains have descended, the floods have· come, the
winds have blown, and beaten upon the house that he
established, but, thank God, it has not fallen, for it was
established upon the Rock. · ·
The spirit in which he had built, and the spirit in
which he transmitted his work to otliers, may be shown
by a few words, taken from the last important official
